This banknote is a UNIFACE black $ white Specimen, Printed by Bacon/Wheeler London England circa 1852 on plain paper. Signed by The Manger of the day in Melbourne Australia in the bottom right corner of the obverse of the banknote for approval of printing.
The banknote is pristine condition, has no signs of any glue marks on the reverse, and as such is very rare, having been stored in the Union Bank archives, until merging with the ANZ Banking Corporation in 1951; then being released for sale in the early 1950’s.
Historical Notation.
The Union Bank of Australia Limited was established in London England in 1837. The first Australian branch was opened in Launceston Tasmania in 1838. It was merged with The Bank of Australasia in 1951 to form the Australian and New Zealand Bank Limited.
Branches of Issue were Adelaide, Ballarat, Bathurst, Brisbane, Geelong, Hobart(Town), Launceston, Melbourne, and Sydney.
