Historical Notation
King George V reign represented a significant time in Australian currency history. In 1923 he became the first monarch to feature on Australia’s Commonwealth banknote issues. In 1910 the “Bank Notes Act” was passed as an act of Parliament establishing The Commonwealth Bank of Australia to issue and regulate currency.
There were three note series under George V: The Treasury (1913-1923). Gold Series (1923-1933) lastly Legal Tender Series (1933-1938).
