Subject: Counterfeit Australian Coins.

Over a number of years counterfeit (fake) Australian coins have been appearing onto the Australian market.

These fakes are being produced in South East Asia, with a focus on China. These fakes are of such good quality. To a point without consulting a numismatic expert such as www.therightnote.com.au you could lose hundreds or even thousands of dollars.

The focus of these fakes range from 1937/1938 Crowns, 1930 Pennies, 1923 Half Pennies, & associated High value proofs, or uncirculated coins.

These fakes are being advertised through on line EG: EBAY, Gumtree. There is no mention of grade, or the necessary points of a major capital purchase.

This fraud is widespread on line & continues to grow, so long as purchases continue unchecked. The Australian numismatic industry will suffer.

Purchasing of any type of coin simply comes down to choice; informed decisions make it so much easier.

When purchasing from these on line sites, THERE IS ONLY ONE WAY THE PROTECT ANY PURCHASE. THESE ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT POINTS TO REMEMBER.

• KNOW THE COINS DIMENSIONS, KNOW THE COIN WEIGHT, AND KNOW THE GRADE.
• IN THE CASE OF GOLD COINS, KNOW THE CARAT WEIGHT, DIMENSION WITH GRADE.
